Adjusting to life on the west coast
My how things change. Last I wrote we were beginning to feel settled in Florida. We had bought a new home and felt like we could finally stay put for a while. However, nothing stays the same, and here we are completely across the country only a short time later. In the fall we were discussing whether we would ever make it out west to be close to my husband's family, and a work opportunity presented itself out of the blue a short time later. We agreed to pursue the option and within weeks my husband was packing up his stuff and making the trip. The family followed later, after having to wrap up some things on the east coast, and now we are living in the great state of California.
I will be the first to admit, it has taken some adjusting. For one, we are renting again - something I despise but can't seem to get away from - and it leaves us feeling anxious to get into a home, since we know we will have to pack up and move again... eventually. The kids are doing much better, but they had quite a time having to make all new friends, especially since they no longer have cousins nearby - at least not ones that are close to their age. We have filled our weekends with trips all along the coast visiting big and small cities, getting them acquainted to the history of the area and enjoying the benefits of the big cities too. I would say the adjustment is coming along nicely. My husband is glad to finally be out here, after several attempts, to have a nice job and to finally have his family nearby. The kids do enjoy the benefits of having their Nana & Papo nearby.
We can only continue to hope and pray that the adjustment continues along as smoothly. I am still without work, which is putting some of our planning on hold, and the days at home - while nice - are a bit lonely. The sooner we can all feel settled, the better. We would love to have some of my family come out to visit, but it seems the price of tickets are pretty pricey and it may take a miracle to get them out here. (Fingers Crossed)
